Once you pop you can’t stop

December 25th 2011, Posted By jens In Waiting List

We L-O-V-E everything about New Year’s: glitter and glamour, dressing up, dancing and CHAMPAGNE! (Yes, our New Year’s is pretty much a Cher concert.) We’ve decided we’re only drinking bubbly on the last evening of the year, and to help us select the perfect champagne menu we’ve teamed up with Kjær & Sommerfeldt – an atmospheric store and wine bar at Gammel Mønt 4, Copenhagen. In business since 1875, it’s quite the experience: wooden panels, high ceilings and a amazing collection of wine, spirits and champagne.

Admittedly, all this binging on champagne can get a bit price, and we do need to save ourselves – and our wallets – for the January sales, so why not go ahead and save DKK 400 by buying the whole menu by clicking here. And click each picture to buy the featured champagne.

In Denmark, New Year’s Eve begins with the New Year’s speech by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II (that’s Daisy to you). We think Daisy would appreciate if you sip a glass of classic CrĂ©mant de Bourgogne, LĂ©once Bocquet during this: an excellent alternative to champagne, it has lots of refreshing bubbles, a delicate soft yellow colour and a bouquet of yellow fruits.

At supper, we recommend champagne Brut from Nicolas Feuillatte (the French love it and they tend to know their champagne) since y’all will probably have lobster, crab, tiger prawns or oysters as a starter. It’s a classic and minimalist champagne from the three champagne grapes.

By now, you’re probably feeling a little tipsy, but do continue on a Pinot Noir champagne, also called Blanc de Noir, for example Nicolas Feuillatte Grand Cru, 2002 – perfect with fish dishes and light meats.

End the meal on a sugary note with a Nicolas Feuillatte Demi Sec – it has an elegant sweetness from flowers and white fruits.

By midnight it’s on to the Cava – a Raimat Chardonnay Brut. It’s cavalicious.
