Thom Browne A/W 2012

January 22nd 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

Those of us who are gothically inclined have long been waiting for Thom Browne to embrace a darker concept – yes, I often sound like I’m a 15-year-old Trent Reznor fan from the Mid-West – and this season it finally happened. Deformed, over-padded Frankensteins and studded ghouls paraded down a prison-esque catwalk to the familiar tones of (I think) the theme of Dracula. As always, an experience I wouldn’t have been without. Happy I braved the Daystar for it.

Qasimi A/W 2012

January 22nd 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

Anders Sølvsten Thomsen, DANSK fashion editor-at-large and sometime human ladder if I have to reach a book on a high shelf, was on styling duty at Qasimi. And what a grand show the gentlemen put on! Tartan in all sorts of variations and materials, and – as captured above – a rather epic floor-length kilt. What Khalid Al Qasimi does always feels like something out of the ordinary at the Paris shows – it’s really quite attractive. And with a Danish touch, who could refuse?

Paul Smith A/W 2012

January 22nd 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

Throughout the entire Paul Smith show I was frantically trying to come up with something sailor-related to tweet, but I finally had to admit to myself that I was never that child. I can’t talk sailor, I can’t quote Popeye, and I even just had to google his name to find out how to spell it. So there we go. Not adept in the art of sailor, but quite a fan of the show, nonetheless. Sir Paul introduced me to a sailor that I could really get to love… maybe sans facial hair, but apart from that. All tip-top. Liked it a lot.

LONDON show ROOMS MEN A/W 2012

January 22nd 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

Since I’ve become British – I borrowed this line from Madonna – I’ve learned the importance of congregating with other Britons when in a foreign land. This is why one of my favourite events during Paris men’s is the LONDON show ROOMS MEN, hosted by the BFC. Sunday saw the official reception, which gave me an opportunity to get a preview of the London A/W 2012 collections – for instance that of SIBLING, above (featuring a dapper and recently married Joe Bates), and James Long and Agi & Sam, below.

Now that London is getting its own menswear week as of next season – the announcement was made by Dylan Jones and my future husband His Majesty Lord Harold Tillman OBE at a grand party hosted by the BFC on Sunday evening – all the London menswear designers will get a bigger and better platform on which to present their work. Well-deserved. And thanks for a great party!

agnès b A/W 2012

January 22nd 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

How much fun is an agnès b show?! I’m ashamed to say this season marked my first agnès b show, and I had no idea what an awesome atmosphere the grand lady conjures up. Not only was there a wonderful improvisational air about it, it also felt really happy and frivolous – which is something we don’t get to see too often in menswear. Quite an experience, and one I look forward to having again.

Lanvin A/W 2012

January 22nd 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

LOVING Lanvin and Purple for seating me in the UK section. I finally had someone to talk to! I mean, over in the alternative section where I do spend a certain amount of time at shows, they might call it ‘international’ but that doesn’t mean people actually speak English. So thank you! At Lanvin I got to sit next to Charlie Clark from Elite London and I don’t think I’ve had a faster gossip ping-pong all week. I was a happy trooper.

As always, Lanvin reminded us what beautiful means. I don’t think anyone masters the art of re-imagining the architecture of classic garments quite Lucas Ossendrijver – and I don’t think stripes have ever looked more appealing. Lanvin always make me love the unexpected, and for that I love Lanvin. Love all around. And happy 10th anniversary to Alber!

Bill Tornade A/W 2012

January 22nd 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

Not to blow my own horn, but this is the second season I’ve made it out of bed for Bill Tornade. Walking to his show through the empty streets of Paris on a Sunday morning is becoming a bit of a tradition for me. There’s something about an early morning show that you don’t get at other shows. At Bill Tornade, that special something is also a great cast and a very concise collection, styled immaculately.

Damir Doma A/W 2012

January 21st 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

By the time I arrived at Damir I was soaked – it was a totally unforgiving Saturday evening – but I quite love how I captured Miles McMillan sashaying out of his own body (click picture for bigger version). Doma was all about the fur, in keeping with his desert trooper / bedouin universe but with a deep Nordic accent, which felt very appropriate. Not least that night.

Miharayasuhiro A/W 2012

January 21st 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

Miharayasuhiro is so intricate! There’s no way of saying it without sounding gay – stick a ‘delicious’ in front of it and it’s made for a Soho lisp – but it’s the truth. Everything he does is so laced (also a Soho lisp word) with information, it’s really the kind of thing you have to experience up close. The mood at this season’s show was further enhanced by the addition of live music, which made it perfect for the windy Saturday evening in Paris. I rather felt like I could have stayed for another show.

Cerruti 1881 A/W 2012

January 21st 2012, Posted By anders In Fashion Theory

Cerruti had me at the semi-strong drink I was handed upon arrival. Really, sometimes it’s all it takes with me. It of course didn’t make it any worse that I rather enjoyed the elaborately choreographed show, which put the Cerruti building to good use. Whenever I attend a Cerruti show, I always find myself wanting to dress like a gentleman – if it ever happens, it’ll happen in Cerruti.
