The Church of Dior Homme

December 15th 2011, Posted By anders In Gosee

In the words of Madonna in the original version of Like A Prayer, and Madonna in almost any interview, concert and children’s book after 2002: “God?” Yes, today it’s all about God, because at Dansk we’re not just a bunch of materialistic fashion dimwits who think Christmas is all about presents. We know it’s about God… or Jesus or Mary or whatever… they’re all the same family.

So in true Christmas style, we like to honour our religion during this sacred time of year. This is when we pray at the alter of Dior Homme, our church of choice. At first we thought people might judge us for worshipping Kris Van Assche over the normal God, but then we realised that other people do it, too.

Take for instance Victor Nylander in the above autumn/winter 2011 short film for Dior Homme, directed by Willy Vanderperre, in which Victor chants Danish scripture dressed in an Amish hat and Kris’ hypnotising blood red. It’s pretty much perfect. That’s what it’s all about. All hail Dior! (And on a materialistic note, feel free to add the entire collection to your shopping lists when you’re buying our Christmas presents, too.)

Get your gift on at Torvehallerne

December 14th 2011, Posted By jens In Gosee

While we usually just bring a back copy of ye olde magazine for our Christmas hosts – plug it where you can, right? – we realise it’s considered more appropriate to bring something neat and, well, thoughtful. Good thing, then, that Torvehallerne in Copenhagen on Israels Plads (behind Nørrebro Station) just so happen to be flush with all things neat and thoughtful. It’s basically the stuff hostess gift dreams are made of.

Torvehallerne are divided into two halls, offering amazing temptations such as chocolates, cheeses, meats, cupcakes, flowers, teas, and olives – well it is Christmas after all – and if you get peckish while you’re there, you can always hit up the very authentic tapas bar (Barcelona style) at the end of Hall 1. Or, you know, go for the free samples.

Until 23 December 2011 you should also visit the rather brilliant Christmas Market between the two halls. It’s got everything a Christmas heart desires, from handcrafted ceramics to chai teas, and Scandinavian Christmas delicacies par excellence: rice pudding from It-eatery GRØD at Jægerborgsgade, Nørrebro and organic hot glögg.

It has arrived!

December 5th 2011, Posted By susanne In Gosee

Much like this Oprah clip – a current favourite of ours – the Harvey Nichols Christmas videos are a gift that keeps giving. Last year, I think I was responsible for at least thirty views on the doggy video (which you can re-watch here), and this morning, we’ve already abused the replay button on this year’s walk of shame-themed amazingness.

Oh, and via her Twitter this morning, Harvey Nicks’ Victoria Meekings would like to remind everyone that “Harvey Nichols does not condone hedonistic nor reckless behaviour, unless it involves losing one’s mind in our fabulous stores.” Preach.

Nailed in Miami

December 1st 2011, Posted By anders In Gosee

Yes, when they emailed us about it we thought it was something entirely different, too. Damn those PRs and their clever methods. Anyway, we kept reading and it sounded none too bad so thought we’d pass it on. For Art Basel in Miami, which starts this week, one of our favourite hotels, The Standard, will be hosting a pop-up nail salon created by Chicago-based artist Dzine. (Serious street cred name envy.) Alongside the nail salon, The Standard are publishing Nailed, a hardback by Dzine, documenting the history of nail art.

Launching on December 2nd during Art Basel Miami, the book will be available at shopthestandard.com and shops at all Standard hotels from December 1st, with a general release to international book stores from February 2012.

The Vuitton Times

November 17th 2011, Posted By rozanna In Gosee

As presidents of the Louis Vuitton fan club (PM us for details of the secret message board and upcoming LV convention), we are a bit excited obsessed with Vuitton’s new all-singing, all-dancing online magazine. Titled New, Now, it’s got everything from words by the brilliant Mr Murray Healy – who imagines the fictional lives of models wearing LV looks – to the inside scoop on Vuitton’s honey production (sadly not coming to a Tesco near you, but rather amazing nonetheless) and every small but infinitely important LV detail you could possibly imagine. Go bookmark, y’all.

Louise P + Noam Griegst = hot

September 8th 2011, Posted By kim In Gosee

From the gentleman who gave us the hawt Mads Nørgaard films The Copenhagen Experience (starring Freja and Eddie) and the gorgeously surreal Two Women and a Bear comes another little video wonder.

This time, photographer and filmmaker Noam Griegst (who picked up the Danish Photographer of the Year award at this year’s DANSK Fashion Awards) has put his skills to work on a short film titled Infinitas, featuring the sultry Louise P – and jewellery by Noam’s father, Arje Griegst. Slightly spooky and rather sexy, with a Twin Peaks-y soundtrack by Mr Trentemøller, it’s totally up our dark DANSK alley.

Cheap Monday thrills

September 7th 2011, Posted By susanne In Gosee

On Monday night, Cheap Monday, Selfridges and Relative MO invited us along for a rather amazing little pre-fashion week party in the Biscuit Building. Everyone got a wad of cash at the door to pay for drinks and hotdogs – Too. Friggin’. Cool.

The following morning, yours truly and DANSK contributor Mr Anthony Stephinson stopped by at Selfridges to celebrate their new Cheap Monday store. Ann-Sofie Back, creative director and DANSK favourite, was in attendance, along with CEO Håkan Ström and the CM team. We got a very delightful little preview of S/S 12, and can I just say : l-o-v-i-n-g the Brandon Walsh-ish jeans.

Go shop!

Georg Jensen FTW

June 23rd 2011, Posted By susanne In Gosee

HM The Queen of Denmark and HRH The Prince Consort

We interrupt the stream of menswear week images with a little post from Georg Jensen’s recent event in New York, celebrating the company’s new retrospective exhibition, Centuries of Sterling Icons. The lovely Fernanda Palmeiro at GJ (who also happens to be DANSK’s former Deputy Editor) knows that sending me an email that opens with ‘Georg Jensen hosted Danish Royal Visit’ guarantees I’m on the DANSK WordPress dashboard uploading images faster than you can say curtsy.

Beauteous Georg Jensen pieces + the Danish royals = so much win. Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark and His Royal Highness The Prince Consort were in New York for the opening of the exhibition (done in their honour, of course) and HM Queen Margrethe II scored so many style points for wearing polka dots ahead of the autumn/winter season. Attentive readers will of course remember our New Year’s fashion extravaganza featuring all the Queen’s 38 New Year’s speech looks. (Click HERE for a refresher.) And how cool is HRH Prince Henrik – it’s all about the tie and the lilac shirt.

It really was a Dane-tastic event: the gorge Oh Land performed, Helena Christensen looked super sultry, Camilla Stærk rocked her alluring signature turban look and Hamish Bowles looked super spiffy as per usual (okay, he’s not really Danish at all, but he totes could be.).

The exhibition runs until the end of June at Georg Jensen’s Madison Avenue store – check it out.
