Erdem A/W 2012

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

Oh, Erdem. Perfect is the word that comes to mind when describing your autumn/winter collection. I’m hard pressed to think of anyone right now who explores and challenges fabrics the way Erdem does. Majorly beautiful stuff. This time round, he fused tweeds, Chantilly lace and latex in neat sixties couture silhouettes – with some hand-painted techniques thrown in for good measure – and the result was immaculate. Brilliant, bravo, bring on autumn.

Michael van der Ham A/W 2012

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

I had major hair envy at Michael van der Ham. Nothing like throwing a little Veronica Lake on it. Van der Ham totally got his swagger on this season with a succession of sexy little frocks and plenty of his signature collage fabrics, slung and wrapped around the body in enticing shapes.

Christopher Kane A/W 2012

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

I’m sure Chris Kane is getting quite bored by everyone’s comments on his clever ways with a bad taste reference. But his knack for elevating the slightly yuck to the brilliantly desirable – and keeping a bit of the yuck to make us all a bit unnerved – is, after all, at the heart of his label. This time round, the quease-factor came courtesy of a vom-inducing purple-mauve carpet that covered the entire show space and was echoed in the collection in a plastic-y leopard print. And trust Kane to take fur to the next level: his collaboration with Saga Furs resulted in a totes sick pinstriped mink coat.

Antonio Berardi A/W 2012

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

A fittingly grand venue for Antonio Berardi, who sure can cut and sculpt a dress. He brings the glamour, this one. And you’ve got to love the Berardi woman, who breezes through life on a pair of the highest of high Manolo Blahnik heels. Even down a marble staircase.

Peter Pilotto A/W 2012

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

Peter Pilotto quoted Japanese Light Trucks as a starting point for the duo’s autumn/winter escapades, so cue frantic Googling of said light trucks. One word: wow. They’re like Transformers on Las Vegas steroids after the crew from Pimp My Ride stopped by. Same could be said for the fox furs we saw – colourful, sculpted and totes fun. And loving those short puffer jackets.

Acne A/W 2012

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

Just when we thought we were about to keel over and die from a very long show day, Acne came to the rescue with a nice Campari cocktail and some very nice clothes. Jonny got a bit kinky this season, sending out medical neck braces, wide belts that had an air of training corset about them, and some hot white plasticised leather skirts. Julia Nobis looked ace in a pair of very low-waisted trousers that seemed like they were about to slide off her hips, and we loved all the volume-y jumpers and cropped, stiff jackets. So bitchin’.

Matthew Williamson A/W 2012

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

Junior Madsen got very excited at Matthew Williamson when his girlfriend Olivia Palermo turned up. Olivia, should you ever tire of your actual boyfriend, I know a Danish boy who’d like to show you a real good time. He loves long walks on the beach (at night, he doesn’t really do sun), antiquing and accessorising. DM me for his number and I’ll hook you up. Also at Matthew, the lovely Kinga, looking pretty in sequins and fur. Love the sheer t-shirt layering over long-sleeved numbers. Very chic. And happy 15-year anniversary at your label, Matthew!

Louise Gray A/W 2012

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

Absolutely smashing show from Louise Gray. The colour hit you like a truck (that’s a good thing, obviously) and then the brocade, bouclĂ© and prints exploded like firecrackers. Or maybe like cherrybombs, via the sizzling reds and hot pinks. Dix points, Louise.

Jonathan Saunders A/W 2012

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

It couldn’t have been more scenic: as we took our seats at Jonathan Saunders atop an office building in EC2, the sky was still a lovely faint blue colour. And as the show started, the sun went down, leaving the city as a sparkly backdrop for Saunders’ perfectly executed collection. Every single look was a masterclass in itself in colour, shape and print. He just gets better and better, this one.

Legend at work

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion Theory

What a magnificent backdrop to Jonathan Saunders’ beautiful show. I couldn’t resist snapping a picture of the wonderful Mr Chris Moore shooting the show from his own spot away from the photographers’ pit. Check out the new issue of DANSK for our interview with Chris, where he reflects on fifty years in the fashion industry, and talks all things Catwalking.com.
