William Richard Green A/W 2012
February 25th 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheoryTotes hawt presentation from Mr Green. A coat with a hidden detachable mitten? Yes please. And major props to Will for only using fabrics that are made in England. Save our factories, y’all! In fact, the only thing that wasn’t made in the UK were the zips. Because no one does practical hardware quite like the Germans.

February 25th 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheoryThe MAN show is always such an excellent opportunity to look at hot boys menswear. And what a turnout we had this season – best MAN in ages, I think. Shaun Samson opened with a kick-ass collection of oversize net t-shirts with faux fur applique in gothic letters. I think I really need a pair of those Timberland boots. Next up: Agi & Sam and their epic matchy-matchy print suits and equally epic casting. I’m a fan. And closing the morning’s show was our homegirl Astrid Andersen, who nailed it with her Wu Tang Clan-inspired sportswear. Crushed velvet tracksuit bottoms and a fox fur parka? Hell to the yeah.

February 24th 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheoryAh, menswear day at LFW. It’s such a jolly and relaxed day. And so very civilised. After all, no one does heritage menswear quite like the British. Savile Row, where would we be without you? Stopping by at Gieves and Hawkes’ presentation at the Navy Board Rooms was an absolute pleasure. Beautiful dusty pastels and incredible craftsmanship. Boys everywhere, please wear more of this.

February 24th 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheoryThe womenswear part of LFW ended on a very high disco note at Meadham Kirchhoff. And waiting for the show to start was, like, half the show. Everyone was wearing MK. Including me. (Yes, I am a fangirl.) The soundtrack mixed Mariah Carey and Marilyn Manson (Spooky Kids era) and the clothes were a testimony to Ben and Ed’s immaculate craftsmanship, imbued – as always – with a dark undercurrent that has completely captured the collective fashion imagination. To illustrate, I think my current favourite piece in my wardrobe is my spring/summer 12 lilac Meadham Kirchhoff t-shirt with a doll motif and cookie-shaped letters. On the front it says Love Hates You. On the back: Meadham Kirchhoff Hates You. They’ll probably hate me for saying this, but I love them so much.

February 24th 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheoryYou can always rely on Holly Fulton for a full-on art deco print, and this season was no different. Come autumn/winter, Holly’s girl will be rocking some very loud hot pink and turquoise ensembles as she heads off to Miami on her private jet.

February 24th 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheoryAfter being stuck in traffic for an hour (where’s Dex Dexter in his helicopter when you need him, goddammit), we finally arrived at Roksanda’s show at the Institute of Directors on Pall Mall. It was well worth the traffic hissy fits: Ilincic got sporty this season, and it really suited her. Twitter went into meltdown over those short puffer jackets, and I’m defo a fan of her hoodies with fox fur collars.

February 24th 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheoryIf only all mornings started with a bit of Mary Katrantzou amazingness, I think I might be better at getting up before 10am. Seriously, this girl knows her craft. If you thought the last three seasons were good, Mary totes took things to a whole new level this time with spectacular prints and a generous helping of Swarovski sparkles.

1 COMMENTGiles A/W 2012
February 24th 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheoryLook at Nobis in that gown. Like, I honestly can’t find words for how much Giles blew my mind. I’m just going to throw it out there and say this was his best show to date. So haunting, not least thanks to the Stationer’s Hall venue and the spine-chillingly beautiful music. My to-do list for life used to be ‘marry Spike, live in a crypt and keep a horse in a paddock overlooking the cemetery’ and now I think it might have changed to ‘be a witch, wear Giles gowns with high collars and burn holes in them, live in a haunted house and keep a horse in a paddock overlooking the cemetery’. From the medieval prints to the Victoriana references and romantic fifties skirts, this collection took my breath away on so many levels. Giles FTW. This man is so bloody brilliant.

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheoryAfter my phone died at Burberry Prorsum, an angel – aka the lovely Sasha Wilkins of Liberty London Girl – appeared in front of my tired eyes and offered to squeeze me in next to Hilary Alexander and Colin McDowell and give me a lift to Fashion East. And what do you know: those clever Mercedes people have installed phone chargers in their LFW cars. Hallelujah and praise the Lord. En route to the Topshop venue, Hilary and Colin provided lots of much appreciated in-car entertainment, and by the time we arrived to check out Marteen Van Der Horst, Marques’Almeida and James Long, both me and my phone were back up and running to see Marteen in full-blown flower mode, Marques’Almeida working their frayed denim grunge, and James Long sprinkling his knitwear magic.

February 23rd 2012, Posted By admin In Fashion TheorySo, you can just imagine how the show production meeting at Burberry Prorsum went: “I was thinking maybe we could make it rain. But while the sun is still shining. And then we could make it snow. But, like, silver confetti snow. And then Eddie Redmayne could look hot on the front row.” When we sat down inside the massive clear-windowed tent at Kensington Palace Gardens, the sun was shining and an array of divine New Look-esque coats sashayed past, all nipped-in waists and peplum hips. And when Cara Delevingne walked off the runway in her royal purple velvet quilted coat, water cannons started spraying the outside of the tent with water, before all the models walked out under their umbrellas and the silver snow set in. Yah, that’s just how they roll at Burberry.
